DRAMA PROJECTS
NOTE: We did not use costumes for this project, but are recommended since costumes are a production layer that can be added
Present a broom handle or a meter stick or a dowel that is about 3 ft - 5 ft in length.
Introduce the stick in teacher-in-role as a mysterious person with a long lost cherished object.
State that the object is magic and can easily transform into anything.
State that you are transforming the Magic Stick.
"I command the Magic Stick to be a....
CHARACTER + POSSESSIVE OBJECT."
Librarian's + Yard Stick / Ruler
Conan The Barbarian's + Sword
King Arthur's + Sword
Jimmy Hendrix's + Guitar
Galileo's + Telescope
Magician's + Magic Wand
Musician's + Flute
Jet Skiier's + Handlebars
Unicorn's + Horn
Robot's + Replacement Arm
Canoer's + Paddle
Transform the Magic Stick in a clever way that someone hasn't thought of before.
"A Body Builder's + Power Lifting Bar."
The key is to share who you are when using the stick when demonstrating or any player is sharing.
The stick is someone's bow and arrow.
Therefore, the stick should be a hunter's bow and arrow.
Once you are finished demonstrating, ask if anyone has a transformation command for the Magic Stick.
ex: "I wish, I command the Magic Stick to be Babe Ruth's Baseball Bat."
Then, pass around Magic Stick so that every player gets a turn.
Each player choses something unique and specific to how they will use the Magic Stick.
Magic Stick is the essentially the prop game using only a stick since it is an easy level.
Players can add a relevant, in action line of dialogue if wanted.
Once players have made a choice of character and use have them transform the Magic Stick in action in front of a black curtain or screen.
Have players take the photos if possible.
Have players check the photo's lighting
Have players fully commit to their transformation's action
Write down the line of dialogue or who they are and the object created.
Keep an organized tally of who did what - it will help later on.
When hanging the photos, find ways to showcase or beautify the photos on your bulletin board. Colored paper is a great way to frame the photos.
Add speech bubbles to really hammer home that these are the players' ideas.
